turtle conservation expedition
The Turtle Conservation Expedition is an immersive, field-based conservation experience set along the remote beaches of Tortuguero, one of the most important sea turtle nesting regions in the world. Designed for wildlife enthusiasts, students, and conservation-minded travelers, this expedition blends rigorous scientific research with true off-the-grid adventure.
Participants stay at a rustic research station near the nesting beaches and actively support ongoing conservation efforts through evening and nighttime nest patrols. Fieldwork includes monitoring nesting females, recording biological data, tracking nests, and assisting with hatchling releases when conditions allow. During the day, participants take part in educational workshops covering sea turtle biology, population monitoring techniques, research protocols, and the broader conservation challenges facing marine turtles globally.
This expedition offers a rare opportunity to gain hands-on field experience, contribute to meaningful conservation research, and witness one of nature’s most powerful events—hatchlings making their journey to the ocean—while living and working in one of Costa Rica’s most remote and wild coastal ecosystems.
